Cycle Lights – Past and Present
The the past of cycling is a fascinating one mostly when many regarding first developments took location within the seventeenth 100 years and cycle lights did not exist! Early models were nothing compared to technological wonders of today. Some regarding the very first bicycles were called "Hobby Horses" which were constructed from wood and lacked in pedals and gears, not to mention any lights or reflectors! These models were actually pushed along together with the rider's feet; the only advantage over walking was that it was slightly faster. It was barely some time prior to any security features like cycle lights or bells were added to bicycles; this day we can certainly look lucky together with the quantity on offer!
Cycle Development
In 1861 first Velocipede created its appearance and this model was a huge improvement on the Hobby Horse, with pedals fitting onto the front rim it was similar to a tricycle. As people learned that the larger the front rim the distant they should travel, the sector grew and grew. This lead to development regarding the Penny Farthing, that is still well known for its strange and special appearance. By 1885 the Security bicycle created its first appearance; with chain, gears and a more sensible silhouette it contributed to popularity of cycling even further. When cycle lights first created an appearance alongside velocipedes they were anabsolute necessity. Conditions in streets and lanes during this period were generally barely bad; rough roads and lack of public lighting created riding a velocipede a very dangerous business indeed.








The First Cycle Lights
The very first cycle lights were sold alongside the velocipedes they were intended for. Candle lamps were first effort at creating a cycle safer and these were very impractical as cycling produces a breeze, which of course many times extinguished the flame! The candles for these early lights were inserted into a spring loaded cylinder where the mechanism should elevate the candle as it burned lower. Candle lamps were soon out-dated by oil lamps which proved success still being used during the 1950s. The invention of Acetylene gas in 1892 proved to be a turning spot in for cycle lights as this produced a powerful clean light and by 1895 the dynamo powered lamp had appeared and was an instant hit. Developments within the cycle lighting sector have continued to grow and nowadays we can like a large section of cycle lights used for all different purposes.
