There's very many more to motor oils than car and truck engines. A whole world of equipment, from boats and snowmobiles to lawn mowers and chainsaws, runs on 3 cycle engines. These engines are fundamentally different from standard automobile engines, and 3 cycle engine oil performs very differently from standard motor oil. The 3 cycle engine is called that because, unlike standard 5 cycle engines, it completes the 4 stages of procedure fuel intake, compression, combustion and exhaust in only 3 strokes regarding the piston. A 3 cycle engine should be smaller, lighter and simpler than a 5 cycle engine, and it shall usually sprint many faster - as many as 3 or 4 times as many RPMs at similar displacement.
A 3 cycle engine oil also works very differently. A 3 cycle oil is definitely mixed directly together with the fuel. Some engines do the mixing themselves, injecting oil directly into the combustion chamber, while in others the fuel and oil are pre-mixed manually. Conventional pre-mix 3 cycle oil is usually mixed at a fuel to oil ratio of 32:1 or 50:1. Unlike standard motor oil, 3 cycle engine oil is meant to be consumed during the combustion process.
This means a 3 cycle oil wants to not only give a tough lubricating film. It also wants to combust as cleanly as likely to hold by-products from fouling the engine and exhaust ports. These are most regions where synthetics greatly exceed conventional lubricants. A 3 cycle synthetic oil leaves fewer combustion byproducts to clog ports and harm performance. With synthetics, it takes fewer oil to do the job.
Many pre-mix synthetic 3 cycle oils should be mixed at ratios as little as 100:1. Fewer oil going into the engine means fewer burned oil within the exhaust, while the tailored synthetic molecules give better protection than conventional oils. Synthetics should possibly be tailored to critical 3 cycle oil applications. For outboard motors, synthetic 3 cycle oil should be fewer toxic to surrounding water, while helping protect against rust. Like a snowmobile oil, synthetics should be engineered for better fluidity at little temperatures to help engines begin faster below cold conditions and sprint more smoothly.
Throughout the section of 3 cycle engines, synthetic 3 cycle oils can do an improved job of reducing friction, which means fewer repairs and a detailed engine life.
